Jan Lamers is a leading tax expert in the areas VAT and Real Estate Transfer Tax (RETT). He graduated from Tilburg University. He has extensive experience in the field of indirect taxation and is regarded as one of the top tax litigators in the Netherlands. He has represented clients before Dutch and international courts.
Jan started his career at the Dutch Tax Authorities as an indirect tax expert specialising in VAT and RETT. For more than 15 years he worked on many different assignments and represented the Dutch Tax Authorities in many court cases. Since 2007, Jan works as a VAT-RETT specialist at the Big Four. In 2020 Jan founded together with Pascal Schrijver an independent Indirect Tax Firm, EigerTax).
Jan has experience in various sectors including real estate, public sector, international trade and M&A. As a tax advisor he represented many clients in court cases and provided several opinions on VAT topics. He is knowledgeable about mediation and dispute resolution.
In 2009 – 2010, Jan worked as a lecturer in the tax law department of the Tilburg University. He was taught in the Accent Indirect Tax university degree programme, together with experts for Maastricht University and the Free University Amsterdam. He has authored many articles on VAT in leading academic journals and publications including the Weekblad fiscaal recht, NTFR Beschouwingen, Maandblad belastingbeschouwingen and BTW-brief.
